The Australian Shepherd, often known simply as the “Aussie” , is a medium-sized breed of dog that was, despite its name, developed on ranches in the United States during the 19th century, making it one of the only true American breeds. Although Aussies were originally bred for herding, they are truly a versatile breed. Aussies are extremely intelligent, athletic and loyal dogs which makes them not only a great choice for numerous dogs sporting events but they also make an excellent adventure companion and family dog. I have talked to so many people over the years that have said the best dog they ever had was an Aussie.
